Terranova Red Yeast Rice - Why No Monacolin K

Terranova Red Yeast Rice - Why No Monacolin K

Why is there no Monacolin K in the Terranova Red Yeast Rice Supplement?

Monacolin K is an active compound, naturally found in red yeast rice and is structurally identical to prescription statin medication. It has been found to significantly increase the activity of creatine phosphokinase (CPK), which could lead to a number of side effects which could include muscle pain/weakness, fatigue, kidney and liver toxicity when CPK is excessive.

Terranova's two new Red Yeast Rice products do not contain Monacolin K but instead offer a special red yeast rice containing monascin and ankaflavin, which have no effect on the activities of CPK, yet have the same beneficial effects on cholesterol and triglycerides.

With more than 10 years of clinical research resulting in 120 scientific publications, these active compounds have been shown to support healthy cholesterol levels, regulate blood pressure, improve insulin resistance and have a protective mechanism against degenerative disease.
