Shungite is a carbon-based stone that was first discovered in the Shun’ga Village in Karelia Republic (northern Region of Russia). Shungite is a very old stone ancient in fact it’s said to be around 2 billion years old. Its appearance reminds one of coal, it is found in very ancient layers of the Earth's crust that were formed before life forms existed on Earth.

Shungite is a rare stone and has been found only in the Karelia area in Russia. It is not new to people of the region, as Czar Peter was known to have come to the region to use water that had been infused with this mineral. This black stone has been in use for a very long time in Russia where they have been documenting these qualities. Since this stone was discovered in Russia in the 1700s, they have been recording amazing results from its use.

Shungite is elementary noncrystalline carbon with a metastable structure incapable of graphitization. It is also used as a term to describe a sequence of metamorphic rocks from the Karelia region of Russia containing such carbon. Shungite is an intense black colour which outwardly resembles anthracite. Although primarily found in Russia, Shungite has also been found in Austria, the Congo, India, and the United States.

Please Note: Natural gemstone or semi precious stone comes from mineral. Due to the naturality, the stones may have tiny flaw. Meanwhile, cutting or polishing also makes every piece of gemstone vary in colour and size. Image may look different (colour) due to many monitor or device resolutions.
